CCCE Africa 2026 Background

Africa stands at a pivotal moment in its development trajectory. The dual challenges of climate change and waste management threaten to undermine decades of progress in economic development and social well-being. Despite contributing less than 4% to global greenhouse gas emissions, African nations are disproportionately affected by climate change. Rising temperatures, erratic rainfall patterns, and extreme weather events are severely impacting agricultural productivity, water availability, and overall livelihoods.
At the same time, Africa’s rapid urbanization and economic growth are generating increasing amounts of waste. Traditional linear economic models of “take, make, dispose” have proven unsustainable, with negative impacts on the environment and human health. The circular economy offers an alternative, regenerative approach that prioritizes resource efficiency, waste minimization, and economic inclusivity. By aligning circular economy principles with climate action, Africa can address these challenges while fostering innovation, creating jobs, and driving sustainable economic growth.

Dr. Hyeladi Haruna is a distinguished entrepreneur, business strategist, venture capitalist, leadership expert, and personal development coach with an outstanding record of building businesses, developing leaders, and transforming lives across Africa and beyond. He is widely recognized for his expertise in business growth, wealth creation, leadership development, sales mastery, and strategic organizational transformation.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Yola (now Modibbo Adama University), a Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from American Management University, and both a Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Administration and Leadership from Gideon Robert University. Prof Engr Oluremi S. Olutimo (PhD) is a highly accomplished technologist and academic leader with dual doctorates in Computer Engineering and Information Technology & Cybersecurity. Additionally, he has earned a masters’ degree in Computer Science and Communication Engineering, as well as in Information & Communication Technology. His academic background equips him with a profound understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of technology.
He serves as Managing Director of Exoche International Limited (Nigeria) and President/Rector of Highstone internanonal University, USA. A global advocate for innovation and sustainable development goals, he is President of United Nations Association of Nigeria (UNA-Nigeria), Grand Patron of the African Youth Forum International(Ghana), and National General Secretary of ITAN, and has been honored as a Distinguished Ambassador for Peace of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF). A Fellow of multiple professional bodies and recipient of prestigious honors including UN Ambassador of the Year and QAHE Excellence in Education Award 2024, recently receives Lifetime Achievement in Transformative Education & Institutional Innovation Award Thailand, Bangkok.

Prof. Olutimo is also a highly regarded speaker and has participated in many workshops and conferences both locally and internationally. Aminu Umar is the Founder and CEO of Sea Transport Services Nigeria Limited, the leading transporter of clean petroleum products in West Africa, which handles 25% of Nigeria’s petroleum movement.

Under Aminu’s leadership, Sea Transport has grown from a brokerage firm in 2000 to owning vessels by 2008, providing competitive maritime services. He has been instrumental in supporting Nigeria’s maritime sector, developing policies, and fostering strong industry relationships with major international and local companies.
Aminu has held significant roles, including his current position as President of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping(NCS) and his past position as President of the Nigeria Ship-Owners Association.

He also serves on various international and national maritime committees and owns interests in several companies, notably Integrated Shipping Company Nigeria Limited.

He holds a BSc in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri and is pursuing an MBA in Shipping and Logistics at Copenhagen Business School.

TITILOLA BRIGHT ORIDAMI. HEAD OF TRANSFORMATION AND STRATEGY, LAGOS WATER CORPORATION

Titilola Bright-Oridami’

itilola holds a Master in Water Resources Engineering and currently pursuing her doctorate degree in the same field, with over 20 years’ experience in utility management. She is the Head of Transformation and Strategy for the Lagos Water Corporation and doubles as the Business Development Expert.

She played a key role in the now-defunct collaboration between USAID and Lagos State Government, which facilitated the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the State and the then USAID. This partnership attracted approximately $40 million in funding to the Lagos Water Sanitation and Hygiene sector. She has been Integral to so many improvements with the Corporation. Other collaborations she has led includes the WaterAid, JICA and the French Development bank.

She had also been involved in the Engineering design of water supply and distribution systems and managed several water supply and distribution projects in the past, boosting water supply to many parts of Lagos Metropolis. She was the champion for the “Short Term Performance Improvement Program” implemented by 2ML under the world bank 2nd Urban Water Sector Reform Project, which led to turn around improvements in the corporation. Her office has since continued to sustain the project even after the departure of the consultant.

The project earned the Lagos Water Corporation the Recognition of Efforts to ensure Operational Sustainability for Africa’s Largest City Award at the Global Water Summit in Paris in April 2018. Engr. Titilola was personally recognized by the Global Water Leaders for her work when she was selected as the Next Generation Water Leader at the Global Water Summit 2019 in London. She is a Program Committee Member of IWA’s (International Water Association) World Water Congress and Exhibition. Titilola is a receipt of several international scholarships and awards.

Data Jaja is a legal practitioner, social impact strategist, and author of over 10 children’s readers- the book titled The Charming Gardener on review is a book and an initiative advancing clean cooking as a solution and sustainable energy access in Nigeria. She leads community-based projects focused on the adoption of clean cookstoves, emissions reduction, and improved household health outcomes for women, children and Yourhs in general.

Her book also integrates advocacy, policy influencing, and data to drive scalable solutions aligned with SDG 7, 13, and 16. She is a graduate of Law, a Chartered Mediator, CEDR Qualified and ADR Professional. She is currently pursuing a PGD in Peace Studies & Conflict Resolution with the view of Mastering the Art.

Her book the She is the Charming Gardeners, is a publication that documents best practices in clean cooking and community-led energy transition.

She is passionate about collaborating with engineers, policymakers, and development partners to design, fund, and deploy clean energy technologies that improve public health and climate resilience in underserved communities.

ENGR. AISHA MUSTAFA UMARA, DEPUTY DIRECTOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING SERVICES, BORNO STATE MINISTRY OF WORKS AND HOUSING

Engr. Aisha Mustafa Umara

Engr. Aisha Mustafa Umara is a COREN-registered Electrical and Electronics Engineer with over 17 years of experience in public infrastructure development and engineering regulation. She currently serves as Deputy Director of Electrical Engineering Services at Borno State Ministry of Works and Housing, having previously acted as Director of Transport and Energy. 

A Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and active member of APWEN, MNIEEE, and MIAENG, she has supervised major housing and rehabilitation projects and served on numerous committees of both COREN and the NSE. She has also functioned as a COREN examiner, accreditation resource person, and member of the NSE Board of Trustees. 

Additionally, she served as a Board Member of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering’s Senior Executives and Industry (NASENI) and held key leadership roles including National General Secretary of APWEN. She is a devoted mother of three and a passionate advocate for women in Engineering.

ABDULKAREEM MOJEED, INVETIGATIVE JOURNALIST: MEDIA AND ENVIRONMENT

Abdulkareem Mojeed

Abdulkareem Mojeed is a multiple award-winning Business and Environment investigative Journalist. He is a graduate of Botany and Ecological Studies from the University of Uyo, and has brought his science background to bear in Journalism. Abdulkareem has extensively reported on biodiversity conservation, climate change, agriculture, food security, oil and gas, energy, and power. He has covered major regional and global environmental events, including the African Climate Week, UN Conference of the Parties (COP) and plastics treaty negotiations held in Kenya, Egypt, Dubai, Azerbaijan, and Geneva, Switzerland, respectively.

His work has earned recognition locally and internationally, with participation in both local and global fellowships including the prestigious SEJ Diversity Fellowship (Philadelphia, USA) and the Y. Eva. Tan Conservation Reporting Fellowship (Mongabay). He is a nature enthusiast. When he is not working, he enjoys travelling, reading, watching and playing soccer.

Dr. MUSTAPHA ABDULLAHI, PhD, MIMechE, SPE, COREN

Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, PhD, MIMechE, SPE, COREN

Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi is the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 24, 2023. A seasoned energy expert and policy strategist, Dr. Abdullahi combines academic distinction with hands-on experience in energy systems, regulation, and innovation. He is a key figure in shaping Nigeria’s energy future. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Manchester and served as a Research Associate and Teaching Assistant in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Civil Engineering. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (MIMechE), credentials that underscore his commitment to professional excellence and technical innovation. He completed a prestigious Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Manchester, UK, from 2021 to 2023. During this period, he conducted impactful research titled “Assessment of the Structural Integrity,” contributing valuable insights to the field. His work was recognized and supported by the Industry Collaboration Fund, UK, highlighting his commitment to advancing knowledge through industry-academia collaboration. 

Dr. Abdullahi has over 14 years of experience in Nigeria’s energy sector, particularly within the oil and gas industry. He spent a significant part of his career at the Department of Petroleum Resources (now the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission – NUPRC), contributing to regulatory policy, energy systems management, and sustainability initiatives. His technical competence is further complemented by his role at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), where he engaged in research and development at the intersection of space and energy technology.
